Ao intervalo do jogo de futebol entre os leões e o Tondela, Nélson Évora foi apresentado no relvado como reforço sensação da equipa do Sporting para a nova época. A surpresa estava bem guardada, pois o presidente Bruno de Carvalho e o vice-presidente Vicente Moura conduziram diretamente o processo no maior secretismo, e deixou todos de boca aberta em Alvalade (e não só).

O antigo campeão olímpico do triplo salto em Pequim 2008 trocou o Benfica, onde esteve nos últimos doze anos, pelo maior rival e dirigiu-se aos adeptos em pleno relvado. "Obrigado a todos, é uma sensação espetacular. Vou dar o meu melhor. Só tenho uma coisa a dizer: Jesus, cheguei", afirmou o saltador de 32 anos, sexto classificado nos Jogos Olímpicos do Rio de Janeiro. Depois desta curta declaração, o atleta, acompanhado por Bruno de Carvalho e Vicente Moura, deu uma volta ao recinto dos leões, tendo sido aplaudido pelos cerca de 40 mil sportinguistas nas bancadas.

Nélson Évora está a viver uma mudança radical na sua vida desportiva, depois de há cerca de um mês ter deixado o treinador João Ganço, a quem estava ligado há 25 anos, para passar a ser treinado pelo cubano Ivan Pedroso, ex-saltador em comprimento e o seu grande ídolo. Agora, volta a surpreender, ao assinar contrato com o Sporting após vários anos como bandeira do atletismo do Benfica.

O contrato de Nélson Évora com os leões é válido por quatro temporadas. "Fico muito contente pelo Sporting ter acreditado em mim e no que ainda tenho para dar. É muito especial e só tenho a agradecer por esta experiência única que me proporcionaram. Esta aposta só vem provar que queremos também lutar pelo título europeu de masculinos e enquadra-se também dentro das minhas ambições. Podem ter a certeza que vou tentar fazer ainda melhor do que aquilo que tenho feito até agora", disse o atleta ao site dos leões.

Caso jurídico à vista

A decisão de Nélson Évora deixou toda a gente surpreendida na Luz. Ao que o DN apurou, a estupefação é ainda maior porque, segundo fonte próxima do processo, o clube já tinha acionado junto do atleta o direito de opção previsto no contrato que finalizava no final deste ciclo olímpico, pelo que o saltador teria mais um ano de contrato com o Benfica, ou seja até 2017.

Contactado pelo DN, Luís Bernardo, diretor de comunicação dos encarnados, não confirmou este facto mas deixou perceber que a situação é complicada. "Vamos ouvir primeiro o que o Nélson Évora tem para dizer e como justifica esta mudança", disse, escusando-se a adiantar se o Benfica irá acionar juridicamente o atleta. "Vamos esperar e analisar a situação", disse.

Este não será, no entanto, o único caso similar, pois Tiago Aperta, lançador de dardo, e Rasul Dabo, recordista dos 60 metros barreiras em pista coberta, também vão rumar ao Sporting, apesar de, segundo a mesma fonte, terem também mais um ano de contrato. Essa fonte adiantou ao DN que deverá seguir-se uma batalha jurídica com os três atletas em questão, algo que oficialmente o Benfica não confirma. O DN procurou obter uma reação do Sporting sobre este assunto mas, até à hora do fecho desta edição, tal não foi possível.
